GODOYS JOIN THE VISITORS!
We arrived in Australia on Monday the 5th and got right into the studio to rehearse. No time was wasted. Because of the gigs heavy promotion, the re-release of the Visitation album and because these gigs are such a "historical" event, there was tremendous pressure on everyone to get the set tight. There were only 2 gigs on this visit due to Radio Birdman's recording schedule (which 2 members of the Visitors are from-Deniz Tek and Pip Hoyle), which was set to start the day after the Sydney gig so time was precious. It's unreal to play in front of people who know and appreceate good music.

The Survivors opened the show with a mix of great original high energy tunes and several covers, including some Kinks songs and Who songs, which they performed with total authority. This is one of Australia's legendary bands...Jim Dickson, is a great frontman as well as bass player. He has played with several legends including The Barracudas, the New Christs, the Passengers (with Angie Pepper), Deniz Tek Group (Le bon Route) and more recently Radio Birdman. The Survivors' drum section is solid, Bruce's rolls and fills are tight and clean, a very machine gun oriented snare sound.

Greg, head of the guitar attack department has completed his arsenal with an SG / Marshall combination which provides such a tonal assault not seen by the bands of today yet way more relevant than any newshooler could ever offer! The solos are tough and mean, the rhytms are solid and intentional the vocals are raw and direct...this is quality playing by a landmark band and the audience at both Newcaste and Sydney knew it!

The set included the whole Visitors 1979 album along with songs by Roy Orbison, Zager and Evans, the Rolling Stones and A Bob Seger tune called "Persecution Smith" which is a very rare tune. The set started with Pip Hoyle binging everyone in with a few bars of the piano intro of "Disperse" wich led right into the rocking "Lifespill"...hearing a packed club singing along with these great songs can't be described by words.

The next tunes-"Let's Have some fun", "Living World", and "Euro Girls" knocked 'em out...The Roy Orbison classic "It's over" blew people away because Mark Sisto has the vocal range to nail it, and he did...next was "Sad T.V.", "Persecution Smith" and "Brother John", followed by the loungish "Miss you too Much", the mysterious "Journey by Sledge", "Haunted Road", "Hell Yes" with the Zager & Evans hit "the year 2525" to wind out an energetic set, everyone played hard, Deniz was all over the stage like a punk rock Chuck Berry, Mark Sisto was rollin' around the stage, slippin in beer and jumping right back up to mic to perfectly bring us back into the verses, Pip's playing is amazing, he can go from very percussive sounds on his piano to a beautiful classical style of playing, all while his hands were on fire from playing so hard all night...

fans were screaming "Pip the Pimp!" and rightfully so!!!...the encore started with the complete version of "Disperse' with a blistering version of "Skimp the Pimp" and "This could be the Last Time" by the Stones.

We can't describe what a thrill it is to play with these heavyweights: Deniz Tek, Pip Hoyle and Mark Sisto, on a stage in their home town, to a packed club of Radio Birdman fans. It was such an honor to be called up by Deniz and asked to fill in for the 2 original members Ron Keeley and Steve Harris, we only hoped we did them justice...get ready, the U.S.A. is next...
